We Must Help Our Brothers and Sisters: Harvey Nurse Volunteers
The Texas Medical Center (TMC) employs 106,000+ people and has 10 million patient encounters is the heart of healthcare Houston and the region. TMC is the largest medical center in the world. Houston and TMC being the 4th largest metropolitan areas in the US is collectively the largest employer of nurses in the world. Many of those nurses have lost their homes and their livelihoods severely impacted. Nurses are stepping up to assist those in need through volunteer efforts.
Dr. Joel Myers, founder, president and chairman of AccuWeather predicts that Hurricane Harvey to be the costliest disaster in US history. Estimates suggest Harvey’s destruction will be costlier that Hurricane Katrina and Sandy combined; approximately $190 billion dollars which is 1% of our GDP. Effects of this disaster will be apparent weeks and years to come.
Motivello Nurse Staffing has received numerous calls from nurses seeking to provide disaster relief. Although we will not be providing disaster staffing, we seek to support nurses who reside in the area as well of those temporarily staffing and volunteering. The health (and well-being) of the citizens of Texas and relief workers will depend on volunteers and temporary nursing staff for weeks and months to come. If you’re a nurse and would like to volunteer, the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) encourages you to check with these organizations for volunteer needs:
